Aare Latoosa

A Name Forever Written in Yoruba History

As preparations intensify for the 140th Anniversary Commemoration of the Kiriji Peace Treaty, we pause to honour one of the most formidable figures in Yoruba military history  Aare Latoosa, the fearless Akinkanju Ibadan, warrior leader, and symbol of courage whose name remains inseparable from the story of the Kiriji War.

Though remembered for strength in battle, the history of Kiriji ultimately reminds us that enduring greatness lies not only in conflict but in the peace, reconciliation, and unity that followed. The legacy of heroes like Aare Latoosa continues to inspire reflection on leadership, identity, and the preservation of Yoruba heritage.
